About Arequipa
| The city of Arequipa is located in the south eastern region of Peru. Because the territory has a coastline and mountains, the weather is varied. Founded in 1540, and as the chronicler Cieza de Leon said, it was "the healthiest and pleasant village of Peru." The city is surrounded by three volcanoes: Misti (5.822 m.a.s.l.), Chachani (6.075 m.a.s.l.) and Pichu Pichu (5.664 m.a.s.l.) The city of Arequipa, called the "White City" because of the color of its old buildings with ashlar (a white stone of volcanic origin), is a picturesque place that combines the beauty of the green countryside with the imposing presence of volcanoes and glaciers.
